I just came back from a long vacation and wondering what topic shall I write about. I was looking through my window at a lovely park covered with snow and watching people cross-country ski and feeling so peaceful. I then realized I do not need to write about past experiences! I need to write about this moment.
I feel I am in a state of bliss and peace. As we all know, happiness are moments of truth.
The most important aspect of grasping the moment is to be aware of your surroundings and allowing every feeling to creep in your blood. I am listening to the silence in my heart and the sound of silence. I am in a state of emotional awareness—one aspect of self-awareness that Daniel Goleman writes about in his book Working with Emotional Intelligence (Bantam, 1998). Goleman defines the emotional awareness as being aware of one’s emotions and their consequences. He continues to write that people with this ability:
- Are aware of which emotion they are experiencing and its cause.
- Experience each feeling and understand the relation between their feelings, i.e., happiness, sadness, overwhelmed, thrilled, delighted, angry, etc., and they are aware of what they think, do, and say. You can experience many feelings simultaneously; however, you allow time to experience each emotion one after the other.
- Identify how their feelings affect their functioning and reactions to different situations.
- Allow their values and goals to guide them.
Experience each emotion and give it all the time it needs to creep into your veins. It is magical. It is a healing. Stretch your authentic self.
Looking through my window at the snow at sunset.
This is a magical moment.
