What about making a difference in someone’s life in less than a minute? What does it take?
Last year in May 2010, at the Association of Image Consultant International (AICI) Annual Conference in Vancouver, I was introduced to the world famous “Who I Am Makes A Difference” Blue Ribbon as a colleague honored me with one. I was fascinated by the brainchild and creator of this simple, creative, effective and powerful acknowledgment system.
This May, at the AICI’s Annual Conference in Orlando, I had the honor to meet Helice “Sparky” Bridges, the conference keynote speaker, the creator of the world famous “Who I Am Makes A Difference” Blue Ribbon and the winner of 2005 Gandhi Nonviolence Award. In 1985 “Sparky” founded the nonprofit educational organization Difference Makers International so that “every child would grow up in a safe, supportive, nurturing environment in which they would know that who they are makes a difference”. The “Who I Am Makes A Difference” Blue Ribbon programs have impacted over 26 million people worldwide.
“Sparky” mirrors her creation; simple, creative, effective and powerful. She ignites her audience with humor, wisdom and a powerful message that brings out the best in every one. Sparky’s simple and vibrant acknowledgment system is making a BIG difference.
Now, how can you make a difference in someone’s life in less than a minute? It takes a civil act.
- Make a life decision to acknowledge the people in your life.
- Acknowledge people every day.
- Thank and acknowledge the good work of someone whenever you see it; at work, at the gas station, at the post office, in a restaurant, at the airport, etc. If need be put it in writing.
- Constantly remind yourself that you are an instrument for change.
- Be happy by making others happy.
Put Civility in Action©; acknowledge people and make a difference.
